Pioneer's Cup
The Pioneers Cup is a special event for Buce players, first envisioned for the 2010 Summer Buce League. It involves a representative team selected from the best players in Buce, to play against the Original 8. It is considered an honour to be part of the event and an exciting spectacle to behold.
History[edit]
The Pioneers Cup was originally envisioned as a Country vs. City matchup, similar to the NRL's own selective competition of the same name. The Hunter Region would be divided in half based on the Eastern CBD areas vs the Lakes and Country sections of the Hunter and its outskirts. Skeptic decided it would be too hard to achieve, and would involve players having to report their personal addresses to the authorities in order to make the teams.
Michael Read was the instigator of the Pioneer's Cup and was the originator of the "World Vs Original 8" idea. After suggesting it, the Cup became an integral part of the 2010 Buce League draw, which took a week out of its schedule in order to accommodate the Cup's special match.
2010[edit]
In the 2010 Summer season, The Original 8 played the Challengers on the 14th of March, two weeks before the Grand Final. The Original 8 won 15-5.
