Dawes entered the 2009 Buce League having played one training game with the [[Quad Team]] in mid-2008, 6 months before the 2009 league started. It was a surprise, then, that after dropping the radar for 6 months, he was asked to join the [[Avalanches]], who were a player short of entering the competition. 

Despite the surprise recruitment, Dawes had a reputation to fulfil. In his one game in 2008, Dawes scored a [[Double Buce]] on one of his first touches. And despite a shakey start, Dawes got his rhythm and rose to the challenge of commanding a defense for the league winning team. During the league, The Avalanches only conceeded 3 points, compared to all other teams, who conceeded between 17 and 33 points.
